Affiliate Marketing and Globilization

Affiliate Marketing and Globalization

Hey There Affiliate Marketers!

The internet has changed our lives dramatically over the last years. Now more than ever, the rate of internet users increases by the minute. More and more veteran users are learning the benefits and advantages of the internet. Users who had used the internet to simply read the news, and receive mail; are now active shoppers, bloggers, and forum activists. Users, who became active bloggers and shoppers, are finding the potential in pursuing their enterpernuial spirits with no ideas they can execute through the internet. Others are simply there because the internet is truly a phenomenal world. The internet is without a doubt, the most influential tool in modern times. Of course, being affiliate marketers, we are all aware of that and that is why we chose to make a career through the internet J

What is the internet all about? In a nut shell: The internet connects us, to people around the world instantly, with a click of a button. Globalization at the palm of our hand; this concept is mind blowing.

By nature, people tend to stay where they feel most comfortable. Be it their own neighborhood, community, shopping stores, etc. It is not very common for a person who feels he/she is in a comfortable position to try and expand their horizons in different directions; unless something forces them to do so. For example, a person who likes to shop for shoes in one store is a lot less likely to go shop at a competitor store unless he has an initiative to do so. Maybe a friend recommended it, a commercial ad, etc. What I am trying to say is: People tend to stay in their comfort zone. That is very true about affiliate marketers. An affiliate, who feels comfortable with his affiliate program, is a lot less likely to go out and search for a new program. But that is a whole different topic, which I will discuss in another article. Let us look at this from a different perspective.

This brings me to the main point: Globalization. Successful online business owners and successful affiliate marketers are highly aware of this fact. The more exposure you have, the larger your customer reach is. A wider customer reach results in business expansion, which is what we are here to do in the first place, isn’t it? In my last article I wrote about focusing on one niche and specializing in it in order to be successful. That is a fundamental rule for being a successful affiliate marketer. Focusing and specializing in one market is a great thing, but sticking to the local market will limit your business growth. Many Ringtone affiliate marketers have found themselves focusing on one niche in the U.S market, neglecting the potential of other International opportunities. Ringtone affiliates who have focused on the U.S market only, where only focusing on one third of the ringtone market. Imagine owning a bike shop and only giving service to one third of walk in customers. Does not make much sense, does it?

Missing potential customers, which translates into growth and revenue is one reason one should think globally. But another reason is: When focusing on one local market you are “putting all your eggs in one basket”. If the market slows down, or fails; your business feels the impact instantly. A great example for this is the recent restrictions given out by advertisers to Ringtone affiliate programs in the U.S. which forced many publishers to change their landing pages, websites and promotion mediums. The new restrictions resulted from users searching for free ringtones and ended up being charged because they have failed to read the terms and conditions agreement; Or because the landing pages and websites failed to present the charge fee amount. In some cases publishers had had a “hold” on their accounts, others had their accounts canceled immediately; and revenues put on “hold” status till further notice. This issue had caused major shifts in the U.S ringtone market. Other countries were not affected by this problem. Affiliates who balanced their traffic between the U.S and other International countries were able to maintain a steady flow of revenue and growth. Other affiliates have been washed out completely; some found themselves shifting to international countries; while switching their U.S promoting strategy. As you may know, this can be a lot of hassle! In order to succeed, one must think outside the box and look at the bigger picture. Since the internet has made the world so much smaller, it would be illogical to focus only on local markets.
